Lewis & Llewellyn attorney Evan Burbidge was recently appointed as co-chair of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Barristers Litigation Section. The mission of the section is to develop and maintain a strong community among Bay Area litigation attorneys in their first 10 years of practice. As part of this leadership role, Evan looks forward to fostering stronger personal and professional ties among section members and with the broader legal community.
Lewis & Llewellyn team led by Paul Llewellyn and Ryan Erickson recently obtained a settlement of $1.35 million on behalf of a victim of childhood sexual abuse. The lawsuit, filed against a Bay Area school district, was brought on behalf of the firm’s client who was sexually abused by a school janitor in 2001 when she was twelve years old. The settlement, reached on the day trial was to commence, was reported by the Daily Journal as one of California’s highest verdicts or settlements that week.
The Daily Journal named Lewis & Llewellyn as one of the top law firm boutiques in California. The firm was one of only seven litigation boutiques to be selected for this honor. Last Wednesday, a San Mateo judge rejected the latest attempt by the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District to dismiss Lewis & Llewellyn client Roxanne Pedro’s lawsuit alleging that school district officials ignored and concealed evidence that a custodian at the school was a sexual predator. Paul Llewellyn and Ryan Erickson argued at the hearing. Following this ruling, the case will now proceed to trial on September 21.
Earlier this month, Judge Richard Seeborg of the Northern District of California ruled in favor of Lewis & Llewellyn client, Top Agent Network, Inc., in a closely watched case involving alleged theft of trade secrets by Zillow. Judge Seeborg found that TAN’s claims for theft of trade secrets and breach of oral contract could proceed to discovery against Zillow, despite attempts by Zillow to dismiss the entire complaint. Paul Llewellyn and Evan Burbidge argued before Judge Seeborg in July in connection with the motion.
Lewis & Llewellyn is pleased to announce that Marc Lewis has been selected to Chair the Executive Committee for the Litigation Section of the Bar Association of San Francisco. Marc has been on this committee since 2013. As the Chair of this prestigious committee, Marc will:
- Work closely with state and federal court judges to address civil litigation issues;
- Educate BASF members regarding current litigation developments;
- Provide comments regarding proposed changes in statutes and regulations affecting litigators; and
Promote the highest standards of ethical conduct among litigators
Lewis & Llewellyn is proud to sponsor the BASF’s Justice & Diversity Center Gala, taking place on September 18, 2014 in San Francisco. More than 500 people are expected to attend the event, which is the annual fundraiser benefitting the JDC’s pro bono legal services and diversity education programs.
A Lewis & Llewellyn team, led by Paul Llewellyn and Matt Dickman, recently won summary judgment for its client, a major consumer electronics manufacturer, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California against AIG Insurance Company. The Court ruled that AIG was required to defend the firm’s client in a series of underlying class actions. Law 360 featured this victory as one of the country’s notable rulings.
Last month, The Daily Journal, California’s leading legal newspaper, featured a full-page article on Lewis & Llewellyn.
