DeShawn Carter is currently a second-year law student at University of California Berkeley, Law School. At Berkeley Law, DeShawn leads the Family Defense Project, a pro bono organization that helps parents navigate dependency court proceedings and reunite parents with their children. DeShawn is also a member of Berkeley Law’s Moot Court Team and a Associate Editor of the California Law Review.
Before working at Lewis & Lewellyn, DeShawn was a summer law clerk at the Alameda Public Defender’s Office. Additionally, DeShawn has worked for former Senate Majority Leader Thomas Daschle at The Daschle Group and was an intern at Congressman’s Eric Swalwell’s office.
DeShawn received his B.A. in Political Science at Howard University. Outside of law school, DeShawn can be found doing spoken word at local events or preparing for a marathon.
