Becca Furman and Ryan Erickson will be speakers at a Bar Association of San Francisco panel on Civil Litigation of Sexual Assault Cases in the #MeTooEra, on May 2, 2019. This session will focus on how to bring a civil lawsuit on behalf of men, women, and children who have survived assault, abuse, or rape. The speakers will also focus on how to work with the District Attorney’s office during and following the criminal prosecution of the abuser, who to file a civil lawsuit against, when to file the lawsuit, and what causes of action to consider. Becca and Ryan will be joined by Deputy Attorney General Missy Kendra, and all attendees of the lunchtime panel will receive an hour of MCLE credit.

Partners Ryan Erickson and Evan Burbidge recently gave presentations on “Mastering Oral Argument” and “How to Prepare for Trial” as returning faculty members at the California Superior Court Boot Camp hosted by Pincus Professional Education. Their dynamic sessions were joined by fellow-panelists Hon. Richard Ulmer (Superior Court of California, San Francisco) and Hon. James Kleinberg (Ret.) (Superior Court of California, Santa Clara County).
Becca Furman recently moderated a Bar Association of San Francisco panel on “Computer Crime Law and Civil Litigation.” This well-attended CLE included an in-depth discussion of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, along with its California corollary, Computer Data Access and Fraud Act, Cal. Pen. Code, § 502. The panel included speakers with experience bringing and defending these claims, as well as a lawyer from the Electronic Frontier Foundation.

Marc Lewis and Paul Llewellyn recently traveled to Oxford University, England, to discuss the firm’s groundbreaking work bringing civil lawsuits on behalf of victims of childhood sexual abuse. The lecture was well-received by both the law faculty and students, and resulted in an impassioned and substantive discussion following the lecture.

On February 23, Marc Lewis will speak on a panel featuring several federal judges and high-profile advocates. The title of the panel is Storytelling in IP Litigation: How to Talk To Judges And Juries In Technology Trials. Marc will be joined by Judge James Donato and Magistrate Judges Elizabeth LaPorte and Laurel Beeler, along with Robert Van Nest of Keker & Van Nest and Jennifer Seraphine of Turner Boyd.
The panel will discuss how to distill complex technical issues for effective advocacy, ways to avoid common pitfalls in complex technology litigation, and consider recent high-profile federal jury trials involving technical subject matter. On December 12, Evan Burbidge will be co-moderating a Bar Association of San Francisco panel on advanced deposition techniques.
